Juan
Francisco Casas Ruiz nació en La Carolina, Jaén, el 21 de septiembre de
1976) y se licenció en Bellas Artes por la Universidad de Granada en
1999, como primero de su promoción y obteniendo el Premio Nacional de Fin de Carrera del
Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia al mejor expediente universitario de
España, galardón que le fue entregado por la Ministra de Cultura Pilar
del Castillo. En el año 2000 recibió la beca de Formación de Personal Docente e Investigador.
Desde ese año hasta 2004 ejerció labor docente de dibujo y grabado en
el Departamento de Dibujo de la Universidad de Granada mientras
realizaba el doctorado en dicha institución.
En 2002 fue seleccionado
para la Muestra de Arte INJUVE, en el Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid y que posteriormente recorrió todas las capitales de iberoamérica. Desde ese año es representado por la Galería Fernando Pradilla (Madrid) y la Galería El Museo (Bogotá,
Colombia), aunque ha realizado colaboraciones con la Galería Luis
Adelantado (Valencia-Miami), la Galería Metta (Madrid), Galerie des
Galeries (París), The White Square Gallery (Las Vegas, EEUU), la Galería
Ferrán Cano (Barcelona-Palma de Mallorca) o la Galería Sandunga
(Granada), entre otras.
En 2004 resultó ganador del prestigioso Premio de Pintura ABC, siendo presidente del jurado el artista Luis Gordillo, galardón que le fue entregado por la Ministra de Cultura Pilar del Castillo.
En 2005 fue el único representante español en la 2ª Bienal de Praga, (Prague Biennale 2, Expanded Painting / Acción Directa), organizada en dicha ciudad de la República Checa por la importante revista internacional de arte contemporáneo Flash Art Magazine y que contó entre otros con artistas internacionales de la relevancia de Damien Hirst, Maurizio Cattelan o Neo Rauch.
En 2006, después de residir unos meses en Berlín, participó en la exposición Catarsis - Rituales de Purificaciónen el Museo ARTIUM, Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo, Vitoria, (junto con destacados artistas comoAntoni Tapies, Antonio Saura, Miquel Barceló, Jorge Oteiza o Antoni Muntadas) y en The Sock Strategy. La Estrategia del Calcetín dentro de la Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla.
Después de haber pasado unos meses en Brighton (Reino Unido), en 2007 recibió prestigiosa Beca de la Real Academia de España en Roma donde residió un año. En esa ciudad colaboró con el artista Joseph Kosuth, así como en el montaje de su exposición de La Casa Encendida en Madrid.
En 2008 expuso en la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Madrid), en la Real Academia de España en Roma y en Las Vegas (EEUU) en la colectiva The Joy of Sex.
En 2009, residiendo ya en Madrid, expuso en los Institutos Cervantes de Nueva York, Varsovia y Moscú, dentro de la exposición itinerante 10 Años de Arte en los Premios ABC.
En 2010 participó, junto con artistas de la talla de Gustave
Courbet, Edward Hopper, Gerhard Richter, Édouard Manet, Erwin Wurm,
Robert Longo, Chuck Close, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Rineke Dijkstra,
Otto Dix, Richard Estes, Franz Gertsch, Julian Opie, Sam Taylor-Wood o Andreas Gursky, en la impresionante muestra Realismus. Das Abenteuer der Wirklichkeit (Realismo. La Aventura de la Realidad) en el museo Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, Munich y en el Kunsthalle in Emden (Alemania), y en la colectivaAfter Post (más allá de la fotografía) con Vik Muniz, Gregory Crewdson, Helena Almeida, John Baldessari, Luis Gordillo y Sherrie Levine en Sevilla. Asimismo fue galardonado con la Beca del Colegio de España en París donde residió hasta fin de ese año.
En 2011 participó junto con Alex Katz, General Idea y Hans-Peter Feldmann en la colectiva Cover girl, en la Galerie des Galeries, Paris.
Ha realizado numerosas exposiciones individuales destacando Saturdaynigthbathroom, Bare(ly)there y Foreignaffairs (Galería Fernando Pradilla, Madrid, 2005, 2008 y 2010 respectivamente), MyLovingNation (Galería Ferrán Cano, Palma de Mallorca, 2007), Sacrebleu! (Galería Sandunga, Granada, 2006), Mis(s)behave (Sala
Rivadavia, Diputación provincial de Cádiz, 2006) y participado en las
ferias de arte más importante del mundo, así como en casi todas las
ediciones de ARCO desde
el año 2002. Exposiciones en Nueva York, Miami o Chicago a Seúl,
Singapur, Londres, París, México o Basilea, entre muchas otras, han
contado con su obra y ha recibido numerosos premios y becas nacionales e
internacionales. Como labor paralela ha publicado numerosos libros
entre los que destacan los poemarios Thesummerhaikus y A y otros poemas de relleno en Ediciones Alea Blanca. Su obra se encuentra representada en importantes colecciones como el Museo ARTIUM, el Museo ABC o laColección del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, así como en colecciones privadas de todo el mundo.

Juan Francisco Casas Ruiz got a B.A. and a M.F.A. from the University of Granada
and during his studies he won the National Award of the Ministry of
Education and Science for the best graduate qualifications in Spain, an
award which was given by Culture Minister, Pilar del Castillo. From 2000 until 2004 he completed his PhD at the University of Granada while also teaching in that university.In 2002 he was selected for the INJUVE Art Show, at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid and later toured the capitals of Latin America. (Sandunga Gallery, Granada, 2006), Mis(s)behave (Sala Rivadavia, Diputación Provincial de Cádiz, 2006) and participated in the most important art fairs in the world. Exhibitions in New York, Miami, Seoul, Singapore, London, Paris, Rome, Mexico and Basel, among many others, have benefited from his work and he has received numerous awards and national and international scholarships. As a parallel effort he has published numerous books including poetry books like Thesummerhaikus and A and Other Poems at Editions Alea Blanca. His work is represented in major collections including the Museum Artium or the ABC Museum and in private collections around the world. He is considered one of the more influential young painters in Spain.
He lives and works in Paris and Madrid.
