Cedric Roulliat

After a long stint working on comics, Cédric Roulliat naturally turned to photography and video to bring his work closer to popular narrative forms such as cinema, photo-stories and advertising. His models are also sometime actors, featuring in his short films that often deal with feminine protagonists close to madness.
In a Hollywood-style, fictional topography (a normalised, stereotyped environment), clichés - literal, figurative and decontextualised - can multiply themselves in a myriad of deviant environments, peopled with objects and characters signifying desire or death (just as in fairytales). These clichés, born out of saving, primitive rites, brush (without superimposing themselves) with the image which is embedded in the director's subconscious.
